UTech Students' Union
The Students' Union is another structure from the 'Old Campus. In 2019, the building was designated a National Monument for its connection to the Farm School and relevance in the creation of CAST (Jamaica National Heritage Trust, 2019). The sturdy concrete structure served as a fertilizer storage facility on the Farm School before being transformed to serve as two classrooms for hospitality students (Sangster, 2011, p. 14). Before becoming the first library, the cut-stone and timber building at CAST served as an administrative block for the Principal, Registrar, and Accountant. The World Bank supported the development of structure from 1968 to 1971. The structure was converted into a bookstore, then as the Students Union building, which it still is today (Sangster, 2011, p. 281-282). The Students' Union serves as a conduit between students and administration, ensuring that students have a voice in issues affecting their education, campus life, and well-being. The Union assists in the operation of student activities and facilities.
